About Us

The meaning of "Yide" in Yide hotel: Guests come to the ancient city to appreciate the ancient culture, at the same time, they experience the simple folk customs, feel the natural customs, make people forget all their favors and humiliations, nourish their mind and purify their spirits, and are always happy to have something to gain. Four parties of guests gather in Si, bringing eight sides of human feelings, four sides of the breeze, the ancient city people also get something; the ancients cloud: "life two, two, three, all things", "Taijisheng two instruments, two Yisheng four images, four images born eight gossips, eight gossips intertwined, all things born Yan". From beginning to end. To do things for others is called "Yide".
Yide Hotel was once the home of Hou Wangbin. What follows is a brief History of structure of the numerous developments that have occurred during its lifetime.
The house -located on the east side of Eastern Shaxiang Street – was built between 1736 and 1795 during the “Qianlong period”, Qing Dynasty. Hou Wangbin was dedicated to draft banking and his highest position was the manager of the main branch of Tianchengheng. The Hou family acquired the house in the “Guangxu period” and later renovated it.
The entire building complex comprised of six yard houses, each served a different role: Worker’s Yard, Owner’s Yard, Academy, Carriage’s Yard, Garden and Ancestral temple. Each courtyard was divided into two parts. The main house was a “Cave-style Dwelling”. A floral-pendant gate joined the two parts together.

The Academy was a good place for reading as it was very tranquil. The side gate of the Worker’s Yard faced the Academy’s gate. In between these two gates was a corridor where the residents mounted and dismounted from their horses and carriages. At the end of the corridor was the main gate, which was arch-shaped and faced the street. The Garden was accessible through the Worker’s Yard, but it no longer survived.
Tianchengheng formerly traded in fine textile. In 1826, it was changed into a draft bank. When the shop traded in textile, the boss was Ma Zhu. Unfortunately the shop eventually went bankrupt. The Hou Family, however, invested in it and gradually it began to flourish. When it was changed into a draft bank, the Hou Family became its biggest partner.
Tianchengheng was very adaptable in conducting its business, its tenet being “to bring those thrown away”. In a competitive business environment, it extended its scope to many distant areas, with branches all over China. Under Hou Wangbin’s management for over twenty years, his draft bank prospered. Tianchengheng ran for 95 years. In 1921, the shop was lacking in capital and was forced to close down.
